Welcome to our 2008-2009 Class Blog!
This is the second year that I have used blogging in my classroom. I have already witnessed the amazing writing that my students are capable of accomplishing this year. However, a common question I hear is “Why do I need to know how to write?” or “How long does this have to be?”. To answer the first question, regardless of the career path that you embark on, you will need to know how to write. As an adult, you will send thank you cards, write emails, or write a letter of complaint to a business.
The most important reason why we should write is because we have important things to say. Your experiences, your thoughts, your reasonings…these deserve to be heard. My students have currently been working on personal narratives and we have collected ideas in our writing notebooks. I am in the process of grading these notebooks and I have enjoyed reading every single one of them. Students have asked for copies of what they have written because their parents want a copy. Again, what you have to say is IMPORTANT!!
Blogging takes all of this to a new level. Blogging allows people from all over the world to read what you have to say. And I can guarantee you that parents, teachers, district employees, and your peers read what you write on here. Therefore, it is important that we show the world how intelligent we are. When you respond to a blog, please use correct grammar and spelling. Also, I require that you write at least 4 sentences. Comments will not be approved unless they follow these guidelines. Blogs count as a daily grade.
Also, anyone out there is allowed to post on our blog. Comments are moderated by me. Anything inappropriate will not be published. I look forward to reading everyone’s responses!
